The Port of Corpus Christi announced in a news release early Friday morning that Phillips 66 and Trafigura will begin work on a 50/50 joint venture project to build as many as two single-point mooring buoys about 21 miles offshore from the port.

The joint venture, known as Bluewater Texas Terminal LLC, will work on the buoys to eventually allow for the “safe and environmentally responsible loading” of very large crude carriers, the release states.

Phillips 66 will construct the facility, and the Port of Corpus Chritsti Authority Officials will work closely with newly formed Bluewater Texas.
